Masdar

Masdar has signed a PPA with NEGU in July, 2019 to design, finance, build and operate a 500 MW wind farm project in Zarafshan district of the Navoi Region. Project components are planned as follows:

  • 111 Wind Turbines across the project footprint with a total size of 9 000 ha;
  • 2x 220 kV OHTLs with a length of app 630 meters;
  • Direct 3 km access road from highway A379 to the Project site;
  • ca.80 km on-site access road.

As part of ESIA, Wood Group contracted Juru to conduct one-year biodiversity surveys to identify main potential risks by conducting following studies:

  • Assessment of direct habitat loss and disturbance through construction of wind farm infrastructure;
  • Assessment of species of flora and fauna at the Project site and its associated facilities;
  • 15 months bird and bat monitoring;
  • Assessment of displacement (indirect habitat loss) if birds avoid the wind farm and its surrounding area due to turbine construction and operation;
  • Assessment of bird mortality through collision or interaction with turbine blades and other infrastructure (i.e. collision risk).

Services provided

  • Assistance in technical due diligence of the project location and setting up ToR for ESIA from biodiversity perspective;
  • Assessment of selected project site from E&S perspective;
  • Biodiversity survey of the project site and associated facilities (OHTL, access road), including:
    • Habitat and botanical survey;
    • Reptile and amphibian survey;
    • Mammal survey by using 10 photo traps;
    • Invertebrate survey.
  • Bird monitoring: 15-months Vantage point (on 14 VP) surveys (36 hours per VP per season) based on guidelines outlined in the Scottish Natural Heritage: Recommended bird survey methods to inform impact assessment of onshore windfarms (March 2017, v2.) (SNH 2017);
  • Bird and bat survey at Mount Aktau that considered as Important Bird Area;
  • Transect surveys during bird breeding period;
  • Transect survey along existing OHTL;
  • One-year bat monitoring, including:
    • Static Detector Survey;
    • Bat Roost Search;
    • Transect survey;
    • Bat data analysis using Kaleidoscope Pro Auto Analysis and BatSound 4 software.
